Tonight’s game was a sneak peak into two good teams that will contend this year.

The Houston Texans– The Texans showcased their new 3-4 defensive scheme powered by Wade Phillips. This defense will make some plays this year. They have two beasts on each end of the defensive line in rookie J.J. Watt and Mario Williams. The 3-4 scheme allows them to explode off the line giving them a chance to rack up the sacks this year and put serious pressure on the quarterback. University of Arizona standout Brooks Reed looks capable to step in and do some rotational work. Jonathon Joseph will add his skills to the secondary. Starter’s Vonta Leach and Arian Foster did not play and the running game still looked good behind an above average offensive line. T.J. Yates, the UNC alumni, looks like he will be a very good backup quarterback or starter some day with his cool-collected game play. This is the year the Texans will make a splash in the playoffs. Mark my words.

The New York Jets- The Jets were missing some pieces this game (See Plaxico Burress) but looked okay. Santonio Holmes was doing his usual slanting over the middle catching quick passes from “No Risk” Mark Sanchez. I get it though, that works for them and it works well. Derrick Mason looks as if he will fit into the Jets gameplan and looks as if he will play the mentor role to the younger players in New York. Greg McElroy felt his back hit the field many times but kept his composure and completed a lot of passes, he will end up being a good professional football player. Bilal Powell, the standout from Louisville, looks like he could be in the mix for 3rd string running back behind LaDanian Tomlinson and could provide a better change of pace than James McKnight. The Jets defensive line had some strong goal line stands and will be solid once again this year under Rex Ryan’s reign.

If it came down to it, I think the Texans will be the better team this year. Wade Phillips is going to turn around this defense. I can see them making it to the 2nd round in the playoffs. The Jets on the other hand did not make to many upgrades. Do not forget that Plaxico Burress has not played in 2 years so you may want to come of the ESPN high you get every day and come back on down too reality.

The struggling Dallas Cowboys face off with the streaking New York Giants on Monday Night Football in week 7. The Cowboys, who had high expectations of playing in the Super Bowl at their home stadium, find themselves with a record of 1-4.

The Cowboys will have a tough time against the NFC’s best defense fueled by a defensive line that features a resurgent Osi Umenyiora, who has 7 sacks and 6 forced fumbles .

The Cowboys will be ready to play in hopes of avenging their two losses to the Giants last year, but their undisciplined play will be their downfall tomorrow night. The Cowboys are in the top 5 in both offense and defense, but their 62 penalties have proved too much to overcome.

The 4-2 Giants have looked great as of late. Thier defense looks like the unit that played in the Super Bowl 3 years ago; causing turnovers and wreaking havoc on the quarterback. The offense features Ahmad Bradshaw who can catch passes and carve up the defense with the run. Brandon Jacobs is running the ball furiously at the goal line. And let’s not forget that trio of wide receivers; Nicks, Smith, and Manningham who Manning will have fun with against the Cowboys secondary.

This game will be a shootout. Both teams will rely heavily on the passing game, but the team that establishes the run will end up winning. I say Giants win 31-28

Projected Stats-

New York Playmakers

Eli Manning-                  25-34 320 yrds. 2 TD 1 int

Ahmad Bradshaw-    18 Rushes 85 Rushing Yards 3 Rec. 25 Yards 1 TD

Brandon Jacobs-         7 Rushes 29 Rushing Yards 1 TD

Hakeem Nicks-             10 Rec 130 Rec Yards 1 TD

Steve Smith-                   7 Rec 80 Yards 0 TD

Dallas Playmakers-

Tony Romo-                   32-47 320 Yards 3 TD 2 INT

Felix Jones-                     18 Rushes 75 Yards 7 Rec 45 Yards 1 TD

Jason Witten-                 8 Rec 70 Yards 1 TD

This football week features some great games. Juggernaut teams square off throughout the league. This is the type of week I wouldn’t bet on many games, If I did have the money of course.

The New Orleans Saints vs. the New York Giants seems to be the game of the week for me atleast. Two of the 5 undeafeated teams left square up in Louisiana to play with the pigskin. I think the Giants are good enough on denense to counter Drew Bree’s air attack. They’ll be able to have more men covering receivers because of that intense rush attack comprised of only 4 people. The Giants have a smart coaching staff and I know for a fact they will have a meticulous game plan going into that dome. It will come down to execution and how good Eli Manning plays.  My prediction- Giants 28-Saints 23

There are some teams that started out looking like the Detroit Lions. Well, not that bad but close to it.

I believe the Dolphins looked good against the Jets on Monday night but it seems they always play hard  and look like an imposter on Monday Night Football.  It’s hard to get any type of read on that run happy team. But, I think they finish 8-8. Ronnie Brown may lead the league at the end of the season. He looks like Brandon Jacobs out there. Only faster and a bit more prettier. He’s strong, swift, and boy can he find that endzone.

I still want to believe in those Titans. I mean c’mon, they had the best record in the AFC a year ago. This year rolls around and they look like a pop warner team from Montana. Their secondary looks like they’re being played by a 5 year old in a game of Madden. I don’t know what could’ve happened in Tennessee but that change in the defense coordinator position may be attributed to this horrible start. I say they finish 5-11.

The Redskins make me drink Pepto Bismal when I think of them. Ugghhh, what a horrible franshise. They get the big names and nothing happens. I think the front office needs to be completey gutted inside out and thrown into a forest fire.  They plain out stink and for some reason I think they go on a little hotstreak even though they’re in the hardest division in football. I say they finish 7-9.

The Denver Broncos should be invited to your next surprise party. Never thought they’d be 5-0. They’ve also beat some great teams. Goes to show you what leadership at the coaching position and a good denense can bring you. Kyle Orton is also better as advertised and needs to get some credit.
